We have received advice indicating the Australian Customs Service (ACS) Compliance section are currently targeting garment importers.

Customs officers have launched a rolling program of intervention and audits in response to evidence of a comparatively high rate of non-compliance among clothing importers who obtain their stock from Chinese suppliers.

This includes undervaluing shipments, using fake invoices from overseas suppliers and claiming contrived expenses, such as “buying agent” commissions.

Importers suspected of defrauding the Commonwealth may be subject to an audit of all their importations. Cargo can also be held up while detailed enquiries are made into the true value of the goods.

If you have any queries on this matter or require clarification on Customs valuation, please do not hesitate to contact Hornet Group on 02 9653 9127 or email us at enquiry@hornetgroup.com.au.
